I was listening to the Minimalists ‘Random‘ podcast this week and they spoke about not setting goals for yourself. Or at least, not a whole shopping list of them. It sets you up for failure.
Given that I didnt manage to write a blog post all week this week- I couldn’t help agreeing with them!
But I don’t see it as failure. I see my ‘Year of Living Dangerouly’ list as like a written vision board. It is a list of things I would like to incorporate into my life, but I also imagine it will change and adapt as I experience and discover new things.
So, I didn’t write a blog post every day this week. Oh well. I’m not going to beat myself up about it, I’ll just see how next week goes.
I can’t remember exactly where I heard this – but someone once told me that the key to long term behaviour change is to not see small setbacks as ‘failures’. To not give up because you’ve not quite managed to adhere to the rules you’d set for yourself.
Instead you should just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back to it.
Lavendaire’s video this week also touched on this theme. ‘Failing’ is an opportunity to learn and get better.
Let’s see how next week goes!
